India’s electric vehicle (EV) market achieved a historic milestone in July 2026, with 3,27,901 EVs registered, marking the highest-ever monthly retail sales and a 66% year-on-year growth, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
The strong performance means that nearly one in every eight vehicles sold in India during July was electric, highlighting the rapid adoption of electric mobility across multiple vehicle segments.
FADA noted that India’s transition towards electric mobility continues to gain momentum as consumers increasingly embrace EVs across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles.
The association also observed that concerns over potential fuel price volatility due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia could further encourage consumers and fleet operators to shift towards electric vehicles.
Commenting on the milestone, FADA Vice President Sai Giridhar said:
“India has never bought more electric vehicles in a month than it did in July 2026, with nearly one in every eight vehicles retailed now electric.”
Electric two-wheelers registered another landmark achievement by crossing the 2 lakh-unit mark for the first time.

The segment continues to drive India’s overall EV growth, supported by rising consumer acceptance and expanding product choices.

According to FADA, electric three-wheelers have effectively become the default option rather than an alternative for buyers.
Fleet electrification also continued to expand.
Electric commercial vehicles accounted for:

- 3.54% in June 2026
- 1.65% in July 2025
FADA noted that commercial fleet operators are increasingly moving beyond pilot projects to large-scale vehicle purchases.
Electric passenger vehicles recorded impressive growth during July.

FADA, however, highlighted that demand currently exceeds supply for several popular EV models and urged manufacturers to improve vehicle availability ahead of the festive season.
FADA observed that uncertainties arising from the ongoing West Asia geopolitical situation, which could increase global crude oil prices and fuel inflation, may further strengthen consumer interest in electric mobility.
Higher fuel prices generally improve the cost advantage of EV ownership, making electric vehicles more attractive to both private buyers and commercial fleet operators.
Highlighting the nationwide adoption of electric mobility, FADA Vice President Sai Giridhar said:
“The EV transition has stopped being a forecast. It is now a showroom reality — and Bharat is driving it.”
The statement reflects growing EV demand not only in metropolitan cities but also across smaller towns and emerging markets.
