In a clinical display of bowling and middle-order resilience, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a dominant 40-run victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 32 of IPL 2026. Playing at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday night, the Royals successfully defended a modest total of 159, handing LSG their fourth consecutive defeat of the season.
The win propels Rajasthan to the second spot on the points table, while Lucknow’s slump continues as they struggle at the bottom of the standings.
Jadeja’s Rescue Act Lifts Rajasthan to 159
After being put in to bat first by LSG captain Rishabh Pant, the Rajasthan Royals found themselves in immediate trouble. The LSG pace attack, led by a fired-up Mohammed Shami, tore through the RR top order. Shami removed both Yashasvi Jaiswal (22) and Dhruv Jurel (0) in consecutive deliveries, narrowly missing a hat-trick. When Vaibhav Sooryavanshi fell shortly after, the Royals were reeling at 32/3 within the first four overs.
Captain Riyan Parag (20) and Shimron Hetmyer (22) attempted to stabilize the innings, but it was Ravindra Jadeja who truly turned the tide. Jadeja played a masterclass in anchoring an innings on a slow surface, finishing unbeaten with 43 off just 29 balls. His knock included crucial boundaries and a massive six in the death overs. Late contributions from Shubham Dubey (19 off 11) ensured RR reached a competitive 159/6, despite the disciplined efforts of Mohsin Khan (2/17) and Prince Yadav (2/29).
LSG Top-Order Collapse
Chasing 160 for victory, the Lucknow Super Giants suffered a nightmare start. The chase was derailed almost immediately when Ayush Badoni was run out for a duck in the opening over following a mix-up with Mitchell Marsh. Things went from bad to worse as Nandre Burger dismissed skipper Rishabh Pant for a duck, and Jofra Archer sent Aiden Markram back to the dugout, also for zero.
With the scoreboard reading 11/3 in under three overs, the hosts were forced into a defensive shell. Mitchell Marsh was the lone warrior for Lucknow, scoring a gritty 55 off 41 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes. However, he found virtually no support from the other end. Nicholas Pooran (22) tried to build a partnership, but his dismissal by Jadeja effectively ended any realistic hopes of an LSG comeback.
Archer’s Fiery Finish
Jofra Archer was the standout performer with the ball, utilizing the variable bounce of the Ekana track to perfection. Archer returned exceptional figures of 3/20 in his four overs. He capped off the night by cleaning up the tail, dismissing Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan in the 18th over to bundle out Lucknow for 119.
Nandre Burger (2/27) and Brijesh Sharma (2/18) provided excellent support, ensuring that the Royals never lost their grip on the match. Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round excellence earned him the Player of the Match award, highlighting his vital role in both departments.
The Road Ahead
For the Rajasthan Royals, this victory marks a return to form and reinforces their status as title contenders. Their ability to defend a sub-160 total on a tricky pitch will give their bowling unit immense confidence. For the Lucknow Super Giants, the road becomes steeper. With four losses in a row, Rishabh Pant’s side will need a drastic turnaround in their batting department if they hope to keep their playoff aspirations alive.
