PM Modi to Visit Gujarat for Historic ‘Somnath Amrit Parv’ Celebrations

Date:

SOMNATH – In a move that highlights the deep cultural and spiritual significance of India’s heritage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Gujarat on May 11, 2026. The visit is centered around the Somnath Amrit Parv, a landmark event marking the 75th anniversary of the reconstruction and inauguration of the iconic Somnath Temple.

The announcement was made by Gujarat Cabinet Minister and BJP spokesperson Jitu Vaghani during a detailed press conference. The “Amrit Parv” serves as a tribute to the resilient spirit of the temple, which was restored to its glory 75 years ago on May 11, 1951, by the then-President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, following the historic vow taken by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

A Grand Spectacle of Faith and Culture

The Prime Minister’s visit is expected to be a multi-sensory celebration of Gujarat’s identity. Minister Vaghani outlined an extensive itinerary that includes both high-octane public events and solemn spiritual rituals.

The festivities will feature:

  • Mega Roadshow: A one-kilometer-long roadshow will take place from the Triveni Helipad to the statue of the legendary warrior Veer Hamirji Gohil. This procession will be lined with cultural tableaux and performances showcasing the diverse traditions of various Indian states.
  • Surya Kiran Air Show: The Indian Air Force’s renowned Surya Kiran aerobatic team will perform a spectacular display in the skies above the Arabian Sea, adding a touch of modern grandeur to the ancient site.
  • Aerial Flower Shower: As the Prime Minister enters the temple precincts, helicopters will shower flower petals over the temple spires, symbolizing a divine welcome.
  • Temple Rituals: PM Modi, who also serves as the Chairman of the Shree Somnath Trust, will perform several sacred rituals, including the Kumbhabhishek, Dhvaj Puja (flag worship), and a special Maha Puja.

Symbolism of Resilience

Speaking to the media, Jitu Vaghani emphasized that the Somnath Temple is not just a place of worship but a symbol of India’s “unbroken faith” and self-respect.

The celebrations are part of a larger five-day festival designed to immerse devotees in a spiritual experience. Features like the 72-hour continuous Omkar chanting and various cultural programs have already begun to draw thousands of pilgrims from across the country.

Strengthening the Social Fabric

Beyond the spiritual ceremonies at Somnath, the Prime Minister’s Gujarat visit will extend to Vadodara. There, he is slated to inaugurate a new hostel complex for students of the Patidar community, developed by the Sardar Dham Trust. This move underscores the government’s focus on educational infrastructure and community empowerment.

The visit will conclude with another massive roadshow in Vadodara, stretching from Gada Circle to the airport. This 1.5-kilometer route is expected to see a massive turnout of citizens, reflecting the Prime Minister’s strong connect with his home state.

Preparations in Full Swing

Local authorities in Gir Somnath and Vadodara have been working around the clock to ensure seamless logistics and security. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with senior state ministers, will be present to welcome the Prime Minister.

For the people of Gujarat, the Somnath Amrit Parv is more than just a commemorative event; it is a moment of collective pride. By blending traditional Vedic rituals with modern displays like the Surya Kiran air show, the event aims to bridge the gap between India’s glorious past and its soaring future.

The Prime Minister’s arrival is expected to further boost religious tourism in the region, which already sees nearly 10 million visitors annually. As the temple town prepares for May 11, the atmosphere remains one of profound devotion and celebratory anticipation.
